A good middle ground yoke is the PLCE one, it's got a bit of padding, but its still thin enough to not get in the way of backpack straps. Yoke is thin enough to run under armor comfortably too. But yeah surplus PLCE webbing is fairly cheap and I think the pouches are nicer than the Alice pouches because it has Velcro for faster reloads than messing with the clips on the Alice mag pouch. The PLCE webbing definitely seems to pack a lot more internal volume than its German and American counterparts, which is why I decided to opt for it.
